Course Overview This English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course will provide students with the skills to fully integrate into an Australian University undergraduate course. The EAP program is designed to prepare students for the academic rigour of a degree course learning and assessment environment, with a focus on critical thinking, academic writing and presentation skills.

The course is offered at two levels, EAP Level 1 and 2.

Course Levels English for Academic Purposes – 2 Levels – Level 1 (Upper Intermediate) and Level 2 (Advanced)
Delivery mode and location 20 hours per week face-to-face study,Monday to Thursday Morning class only, delivered at Level 1&4, 95 Bathurst Street, Sydney 2000
Course Duration The course will be from 12 – 24 weeks in length depending on the level at which the student enters the course. Each level is as follows:

  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP) 1 – 12 weeks
  • English for Academic Purposes (EAP) 2 – 12 weeks
Learning Outcomes At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Participate in group discussions and debates on a wide variety of academic topics
  • Deliver well-structured academic presentations
  • Use complex academic vocabulary and grammar structures efficiently in writing and speaking
  • Write a range of texts such as reports, essays and reviews using appropriate academic style and correct referencing
  • Understand the notion of plagiarism and how to avoid it
  • Follow lectures and take notes on the main points
  • Think critically and evaluate information in an academic context
Entry Requirements Students must be at least 18 years old.


  • IELTS 5.0 or equivalent
  • Completion of Intermediate level at SEC
  •  SEC placement test (minimum Intermediate level)


  • IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
  • Successful completion of EAP1 at SEC
  • SEC placement test (minimum Upper-Intermediate level)
